Book Suggestion: Sweet Tooth
I've gone through a little reading dry spell and knew that I needed something that would be easy and enjoyable to read to get me in the swing of things. Sweet Tooth was just that book. I find Ian McEwan's style really easy to read and I always enjoy the stories he comes up with.
This book focuses on Serena Frome (pronounced plume) as she makes her way in the civil service during the cold war. She quickly becomes involved in a programme that goes wrong and this story leads up to the quiet climax of what happens.
The characters are all interesting and well formed and, like a lot of his books, Sweet Tooth reads quite cinematically. There is a twist, and it's good, right at the very end, which makes you question everything you've just read in a way I found exciting.
This is a great read and one I would highly recommend.
P.S. More McEwan: Enduring Love, Atonement, The Day Dreamer, Atonement Book v Film
P.P.S. I thought I'd include my disastrous room in the background of this photo- this is what my inability to pack looks like. I've been in the new place for quite some time now and am finally sorting out my room (we did the kitchen and lounge first) Acting like a grown up at last!
